Bretonne Gaëlle Denoual, 32, has an unlimited passion for horses..

Their work has led them to one goal: to be part of the Republican Guard.

After a specialized course in horses at MFR in rural family homes, this young woman who admits she wasn’t an “easy kid” will receive her professional baccalaureate. Here she is ready to take the exam to enter the gendarmerie school, she. But “There is no place for the Republican Guard at my graduation. So I was a police officer in the district brigade for 5 years in Callac. A job that teaches us harmony, meticulousness and courtesy, a beautiful job. »

painful moments

In 2013, a health problem emerged. His eyes are affected. He consults an ophthalmologist, then undergoes a Nantes examination. And the diagnosis is falling.

“I have retinitis pigmentosa. Narrowed field of vision. »

“It is a debilitating disease that is incurable and leads to blindness over the years. It was very difficult for Gaëlle to “leave the gendarmerie”. And the question arose: what do I do now? “, she says, deeply moved, barely holding back tears as she brings these difficult times to the surface.

After working in trade, driver and after sales services, Gaëlle will be considered a disabled worker. “I will receive a compensatory disability pension so that I can receive the same equivalent salary as my working time is shortened. “Unfortunately, there are no available positions at my location, so I have made the decision to leave the company. »

An accompaniment for rebirth

Then a reflection begins. “I’ve never been unemployed, it’s hard for me. “On the way, in Pôle Emploi,” I came across a terrific reference. He saw that I was lost. And that I’m having trouble coping with my disability. He will support me and help me. First of all, he will be interested in the course of my life”.

And finally tell him:

“Do you like horses, he asks me? So why not start your own business?”

A renaissance is coming for Gaëlle. In 2019, “the storm destroyed all the buildings on the farm where we lived. “The insurance company will pay the compensations” and this allowed us to build a hangar out of the kits my husband had assembled. »

When the load becomes a force

Today Gaëlle takes care of horses.

“I didn’t want a stable like everyone else, so I decided to set up an ‘EHPAD’ for the horses. »

It would therefore be Ecuries de Gaëlle.

This decision is carefully considered because “taking care of retired horses is not the same job as racing horses. It allows me to have a normal life while living my passion,” she says, this time with a big smile, obviously fulfilled today.

“I thought for a long time that my injury would be my burden, and today it is my strength. »

17-20 year old horses

First of all, it is “a vast 3 hectare field with brand new boxes to house horses that have stopped racing or are no longer able to work and are old enough to retire. They end their lives in peace. I give them all possible care. »

Phèdre and Gin-fis from the Somme, Roquette from Ain, Ogwai from Plerguer, 17 to 20 years old, “these are owned horses that have been pampered by their owners, given a lot, so they need a lot of attention. So much so that Roquette arrived at the Écuries de Gaëlle with her 3-year-old Shetland pony Julia, “Roquette’s owner did not want to separate them for good.”

Animal welfare, a priority

Here Gaëlle takes care of everything, “as if they were my horses. Proper and healthy food, accommodation, laundry, care, relaxation, decoration, farrier, clipping”. The Gaëlle stables offer 2 types of services, a classic hostel and a comfort hostel “with physiotherapy sessions, energy treatments, purified hay, dry blanket service”. »

It is a true end-of-life support for the animal. For the horses that enter here, the Écuries de Gaëlle is their final resting place. And for these horses, the owner said, “This company in retirement remains a dream stay. »
